Launched in 1999, Barbarella’s first location was part of the original wave of businesses that developed the now bustling Main Street district of Vancouver. Artist and musician Laure-Elaine founded the business with Nicole Lefaivre (now of Moustache and Darling) with the notion to create a different type of salon experience; one that was both personal and fun. The salon became an immediate success building a local following that gained attention internationally and has been featured in magazines from Nylon to Wallpaper.
Over the course of the last 12 years Barbarella has stayed ahead of the curve. Through constant in-house training, hairdressers at Barbarella have developed far-reaching expertise in colour, cut and style. The location’s ever changing decor has also played a large part in creating a distinct experience. Barbarella supports and is supported by the local arts community. Currently on the Main Street salon’s walls are original paintings by Ronan Boyle, The Dark and Laure-Elaine herself.
With the launch of a new location, Barbarella is excited to be expanding its vision of unpretentious cutting edge style eastward. The new salon is located in the lobby of the Waldorf where it blends seamlessly with the multi-venue concept of the hotel. Adjacent to the Commercial Drive, Strathcona, Sunrise and Railtown neighbourhoods, Barbarella at the Waldorf is proud to be part of a new wave of businesses contributing to life in East Vancouver.
